Bell Switzerland is a renowned educational institution that provides high-quality language and education programmes for learners of all ages. Located in Geneva, Bell Switzerland has been delivering impactful learning experiences since 1993. They have been building on the heritage of the Bell Educational Trust, which was established in Cambridge, UK, in 1955.

The goal
In order to serve prestigious clients, such as the International Organizations, Bell Switzerland’s aim was to switch to a powerful and customisable end-to-end LMS. The organisation wanted to step away from manual processes, towards an enhanced workflow. Bell Switzerland sought end-to-end content creation and management support with the objective of delivering engaging and effective placement tests in English, French, Spanish and German. Additionally, the new platform needed to be more intuitive, fully-responsive, and include multiple portals. Each portal required its own brand identity, as well as the integration and automation of tools and operations.

Initial situation
Bell Switzerland needed to change its language training platform and authoring solution. The aim was to improve usability and replace a disconnected collection of manual data collection, testing systems and creation tools.
They required a fully integrated solution that could contain and deliver four adaptive placement tests in English, French, Spanish and German to hundreds of students, and enable automated processes.
It was time to rethink and refresh Bell Switzerland’s entire setup and workflow. However, it would require more than just software solutions and automations. Avallain also needed to provide high levels of privacy compliance, technical support and training.

The Avallain team was asked to improve and simplify the school’s processes for data collection, account creation, course selection and delivery. Bell Switzerland also needed to create a series of placement tests for students who were studying English, French, Spanish and German in order to place them in courses that suited their respective levels.
Furthermore, Bell Switzerland was looking for an authoring tool and content management system that is seamlessly integrated with their new language training platform. They aimed to optimise the content creation process and deliver even better placement tests to their clients.
Bell Switzerland also needed to cater to their clients’ custom registration and access approval requirements. They had to meet individual needs, while also ensuring the teaching and administration teams were able to manage their day-to-day tasks using the new setup.

Challenges
The placement tests and complete registration process (including forms, catalogues and automated emails) had to be made available in multiple languages. In order to meet their clients’ specifications, Bell Switzerland also required a highly individual registration and approval process. The solution needed to allow students to pick courses from a tailored catalogue and request access. Supervisors then needed to be able to approve or reject access at the click of a button. Avallain had to balance these complex custom requirements with an intuitive and automated setup.

Avallain Magnet’s powerful API and intuitive Zapier integration allowed the creation of a range of registration forms and catalogues for Bell Switzerland’s different clients, in multiple languages. Tailored forms and conditional content enable students to create their own account and see the correct selection of products to request access to.
Automated email notifications allow supervisors to approve (or reject) the requests directly via email, within seconds. If approved, the automated flows and integrations notify the student, who then automatically has access to the placement tests included with the selected products – and can get started right away.

This included demonstrating how the registration and approval workflow operates and how to create placement tests in Avallain Author, ultimately ensuring the complete success of the project.
